Mission and Board

The Thompson Divide Coalition Mission.

The mission of the Thompson Divide Coalition is to secure permanent protection from oil and gas development of Federal lands in the Thompson Divide Area including the Thompson Creek and Four Mile Creek watersheds, as well as portions of the Muddy Basin, Coal Basin, and the headwaters of East Divide Creek.

To Acheive This Goal.

The Thompson Divide Coalition is seeking federal legislation to permanently withdraw the area from availability for future leasing. The coalition is also working with current leaseholders to retire existing leases.

The Thompson Divide Coalition Supporter.

The Thompson Divide Coalition exists because of outstanding community support from the Roaring Fork Valley, and beyond.  Our communities on the western slope include Aspen, Basalt, El Jebel, Carbondale, Redstone, Marble, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt, Rifle to Battlement Mesa.  Other Coalition members include Paonia, Delta, Gunnison and Grand Junction.  The Thompson Divide Coalition has collected 2,018 signatures of support since 2009.

Since April 2011, approximately 500 new supporters have joined TDC and written letters of support to our Congressmen, asking for the Thompson Divide area to be protected.  Letters of support were collected from residents of the Roaring Fork Valley including Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt and Rifle.   Approximately 50 letters of support were collected that included specific recreational users such as dirt bikers, mountain bikers and hikers. 100 of those letters also included local business letters of support.  You can also sign a letter of support from the website - it's on the home page.
